Earn your lifeguarding certification from the American Red Cross. Our courses reflect the latest techniques based on science and best practices to ensure that you are properly trained and prepared for emergencies in and around the water.

This course is a blended course with mandatory online course work that must be completed prior to the start date of the hands-on coursework. All dates and times must be attended for the full time slot.

A mandatory pre-requisite swim test must be completed before registration of the course. Swim test requires a 200 yard swim, 2 minute no-hands tread, and a 10lb brick retrival and swim. Please register for your swim test online or at front desk.

Course fee will be waived for anyone who commits to working for the Nishna Valley Family YMCA. Swim test fee will be waived for anyone who passes the swim test and works for the Y.

You must register for the prerequisite swim test in order to sign up for lifeguardin class.

The swim test consists of a:

1)150 yrd swim / 2 minute no hand tread / 50 yard swim. Swim can be done freestyle and or breaststroke, but face must be in water and rotary breathing must be done. Goggles MAY be worn for this. 

2) 8-9 foot 10-lb brick retrieval and backwards (no-hands) swim with brick to deck. Googles may NOT be worn for this.

Swim Test Fee: a pre-class swim test is REQUIRED before class registration is allowed. Swim Test fee is $15. If the swim test is passed, the $15 will be reduced from the class registration fee, or if you are receiving class for FREE, the fee will be refunded or credited to your member account. This reduced or refunded fee applies ONLY if you are going to be working for the YMCA.
